The Nordic Center
Snow Mountain Ranch Junior Nordic Summer Training Program
Coaching Philosophy: This is a simple introduction to year round Nordic ski training and how that process is planned and executed. This is a brief and basic explanation of my junior and senior training philosophy. When you are just starting into the processes of training there is much to learn. Time and patience are required.
The training processes that we engage in must have a defined purpose. Individual passion comes from and is fired by the enjoyment of these processes. You also must have a vision and goals for these processes. Your goals, both individual and team, must be measurable and tracked. Each individual is encompassed by a mind, body, and spirit. Being balanced in all three areas will enhance your enjoyment and success in this and any process in life.
There are only three ways to progress and get faster in the sport of Nordic. Physical Training, perfecting Technique, and possessing the best Technical equipment are the three major factors. There are many important sub factors in each and the bottom line is; the fittest athlete, with the highest skilled technical efficiency, who is on the best equipment….is the fastest. Time (lots of it), Patience (lots of it), and Commitment (lots of it) is what it takes to be the best.
Off snow season for Nordic skiing is Spring, Summer, and Fall. These seasons are when most improvements in fitness and technique will be made. Most top senior and junior skiers will ski specific train during this time with some time spent in one or two other sports. If you wish to be a national level skier at any age level, you must train year round in this sport. There are very few exceptions to this generalization. Our ski training will not only make you a better skier, it will make you a stronger, faster, and a fitter athlete for any sport. Our training activities will include roller skiing, trail running, strength sessions, and mountain biking.
Our Nordic training will focus on being ski fit with technique work and lots of general movement and fitness training. Having good and correct equipment is important in achieving quality training. Commit, sign up, and come participate in the training processes that will change how you approach sport and life! All sessions will be at the Snow Mountain Ranch Program Building unless otherwise posted.
The sessions will start out at 4:30 pm on weekdays and 9:00am on weekends. They will last for 1.5-2 hours. The dates for the summer are as follows:
June 10, 2016, 5:00pm sign up and orientation at the Snow Mountain Ranch, Program Building. Bring running shoes, clothing for running in changing weather, and a water bottle for the first session. Orientation will be from 5:00-5:30pm and then we will run for one hour.
June: 10, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, 28, 30
July: 1, 5, 7, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 26, 28, 30

The Nordic Center is now closed for the season, though the trails remain open and ungroomed. Snow Mountain Ranch’s Nordic Center has more than 100 kilometers of trails accommodating everyone from the first-time cross-country skier or snowshoer to the elite racer. Beginners can ski on short loops around the Nordic Center while the experienced racer can train on longer trails with steeper climbs. Beyond cross country skiing, families and groups can enjoy ice skating, sledding & tubing, snowshoeing and sleigh rides.
