Do you dream of yelling “Mush!” to your team of huskies in the blinding snow while on the trail of the Iditarod? Live out a (scaled-down) version of your dream by dog sledding at Snow Mountain Ranch this winter! Please note that we have limited availability for this activity and advance reservations are required. We recommend calling to book your ride as soon as possible.
Short Dog Sled Ride: Our short rides are for guests who are new to the dog sledding experience and those wanting a whole-family experience. The short ride consists of a 2 mile trail that winds through open meadows with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Short rides are Monday mornings and Saturday mornings. The presentation begins at 8:30 am and rides begin around 9:15 am. During rides, a craft, movie, outdoor fire, and hot cocoa are available. The presentation is open to everyone.
Cost of short ride: $30 per person for guests staying on-property (reservation number required). $50 for day visitors, in addition to cost of day pass ($20 for adults, $10 for children 6-12, 5 and under receive complimentary day pass).
Guests with lodging reservations may sign up for this program here (must have lodging reservation number). Guests who are staying at Snow Mountain Ranch get first priority for our dog sledding program. Day visitors may make reservations seven days prior to the date they wish to ride by calling the Programs department, 970-887-2152 x4135.
Long Dog Sled Ride: Having trouble getting on the reservation list for the Short Ride because it is full? Have you already done a short ride and want a longer experience? Here is a great alternative! On Friday mornings, we offer a long dog sledding experience for guests staying on property. This is a longer, private ride lasting approximately 50 minutes taking you through beautiful trails with inclines and exciting turns. Because of the long exposure to cold temperatures, children 5 and under cannot sign up for this ride.
Cost of long dog sledding experience: $150 per sled (each sled can hold one adult and one child age 6-10 in addition to the musher). This experience is available only to guests staying on-property.
Guests must be staying at Snow Mountain Ranch to do this program. To register, click here.
If you are on the waiting list, we cannot guarantee a ride on the given day. There are many factors that influence whether we are able to accommodate those on the waiting list, including trail conditions and the health of the dogs. If you are on the waiting list, you will pay only if you get a ride.
Full Moon Dog Sled Ride: On Friday evenings, we offer a Full Moon long dog sledding experience. This longer, private ride lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, taking you through beautiful moonlit trails with inclines and exciting turns not available during our other dog sled rides.
The cost of the Full Moon Dog Sled Ride is per sled. Each sled can carry 1 adult or 1 adult + 1 child ages 5-10. Because of the long exposure to cold temperatures, children under 5 cannot sign up for this ride.
Cost of full moon ride: $175 per sled (each sled can hold one adult and one child age 6-10 in addition to the musher). This experience is available only to guests staying on-property.

Power Our Team
Since Snow Mountain Ranch began our dog sledding program in 2013, the response from our guests has been overwhelming. This unique program has allowed us to share our five core values (Caring, Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, and Faith) with over 2,000 people each year.
The entire experience has become one of the most popular programs offered at Snow Mountain Ranch. Dog sledding has also become an effective means for teaching leadership and outdoor education to Colorado schoolchildren.
We are committed to continuing and improving our unique program while keeping it affordable to all patrons.
We currently have 20 hard-working sled dogs who allow us to run the program. With food, routine veterinary care, housing, and transportation, each the dog costs approximately $3,000 every year. This amount does not include material costs, craft supplies, equipment repair and replacement and trail grooming that is essential for the success of this program.
Each dog has a unique personality, and we’ve discovered that our guests develop personal connections with this special group of dogs. We would like to give everyone a chance to personally help support one or more of our sled dogs.
It takes the whole team working together to pull the sled, and it takes your support to help us to develop this powerful, mission-driven program.
